The Sanctuary soars to 24" tall, creating a majestic presence for the two-figure set of The Christmas Story. The design of the Sanctuary is based on historical architecture. Its gothic arches symbolize protective havens in which people throughout the ages have gathered to seek inspiration and hope. The two sides and center panel form a ‘triptych’ — traditionally, a work of art in three panels. The pieces are constructed of wood, hand-painted and sanded for a distinctive finish. Rusted nail holes provide a decorative linear element, and are metaphors foretelling the crucifixion. The base is large enough to accommodate Gentle Animals of the Stable, forming a complete display.
The Christmas Story is the largest-scale nativity created by Susan Lordi. The two-piece set of Mary and Joseph fit with Gentle Animals of the Stable on the wood base of the 24”h Sanctuary backdrop. Pierced metal Tree Sihouettes add color and texture.
